Clay Modelling Workshop: On 10th July 2013 an inter-house competition was held in Usha Martin school, Dankuni in which the students had to make different items using waste products like match boxes, ice-cream sticks, coconut shells, chocolate wrapper and mosquito refill. The classes I to III participated in the competition and made varied interesting objects using the waste materials. The students of all the houses were divided into two groups and the groups consisted of four members. The students made a photo frame using egg shells, candle stand with marbles, a multi-purpose box, and colorful flowers using bottles. A temple was made using mosquito refills and waste CDs and a lady bird was also made using coconut shells.
The world music day was celebrated at UMS (Dankuni) with a lot of enthusiasm on 21st June, 2013. The day began with an open assembly for classes –V, VI, VII. As the world music was dedicated to the memory of Pandit Ravi Shankar and the musical maestro Rahul Dev Burman, the students paid their homage by singing Rahul Dev Burman’s songs and by reciting poems on Pandit Ravi Shankar.
We felt privileged of having Arpita Chatterjee and Bhaskar Mitra as our guest. Arpita Chatterjee  had been initiated into Hindustani Classical Music since her childhood. She her skill under the powerful guidance of Dipali Nag.
Prakriti Utsav :Â Save the Nature Save the World was the slogan of Prakriti Utsav at Usha Martin School, Dankuni. It was a day full of activity right from tiny toddles of nursery upto young ones of class VII. This day began with a special assembly of class III and IV on nature themes. On this day that is 5th Of August each class exchanged friendship band made by them.
The nursery kids engaged themselves in leaf painting followed by a film on nature. UKG children added color to this day by performing a colorful full dance. The primary child also paid tribute to our Nature by elaborate activities. Children of Class I went for a survey to the Bhushan Steel Campus. They asked questions to the residents and made them aware about the school’s environmental awareness program. The rest of the class performed collage making on natural things and wrote a pledge. Classes II and III performed a quiz contest on nature. Class IV they made models with vegetables and later they were put up for a small exhibition. A short Powe are point Presentation show was put up by Classes V, VI, VII. Enthusiastic students of class V also went to Gobra petrol pump to campaign on “save fuelâ€. The day ended with a small note for everyone to highlight on the fact that nature is our friend and we need to preserve and nurture our precious gift forever.
Usha Martin Dankuni celebrated Rabindranath Thakur’s Birthday along with offering our respect and reverence to our “Bidrohi Kobi†Kazi Nazrul Islam with a handful of songs, dances, recitations.
The Morning session started with the multicolored renderings of the Pre-Primary students. “kothao Amar Harie Jaoar Nei Mana†transported us to a land which was full of flowers, butterflies, the rustling of the leaves, the floating clouds, the raindrops and the roses.
The Primary section remembered Rabindranath Thakur and Nazrul Islam with recitations and the dance-drama. The Poem “Ichamati†by Rabindranath Thakur showed us vividly the longings of a child. This child wants to be a small river that will travel distant lands.
The students of class VI and VII offered their homage to our “Bidrohi Kobi†with the song “Dur Dipobasini, Chini Tomare Chini.â€, that echoes the longings for something unknown.
